Tomasz Adamek vs Bryant Jennings being discussed for November on HBO

Main Events is looking into the possibility of matching their top two heavyweights on HBO in November, with both sides said to be interested in the fight.

Curtis Stevens easy work for GGG

Last night, Curtis Steven’s fight was suppose to display why he was a dangerous opponent in the middleweight division and why he was being talked about as a challenger for Gennady Golovkin this fall.  I must admit his one punch knock out of Saul Roman was flashy, but his prospects of pulling the same feat against GGG are very slim, here’s why:

Saul Roman was coming straight forward, with no head movement and clearly had no power in the hands.  GGG will provide both of these against Stevens and it surely will not be a long night for Stevens as GGG will make quick work.

Curtis Stevens was very aggressive.  With the exception of the left hook, he was very wide with his punches and that would clearly leave openings against Golovkin.

It is obvious that Stevens looks for early knockouts because of his lack of stamina and most of the top middleweights have plenty of it.  Curtis Stevens could easily be beat by a good boxer with movement who is willing to weather the storm in the early rounds.

Credit to Stevens for doing exactly what he was suppose to do, unfortunately to many he just doesn’t have the tools to beat a top MW.  If this will be Gennady Golovkins opponent for the fall, don’t be upset, at least someone is willing to fight GGG.  Kudos to Stevens as he will lose early by ko when the fight does happen.

NBC Sports Fight Night results: Thabiso Mchunu spoils Eddie Chambers' cruiserweight debut

American heavyweight veteran Eddie Chambers was puzzlingly ineffective in his drop to cruiserweight, as unknown Thabiso Mchunu ran away with the fight.Boxing fans and pundits waited a long time for Eddie Chambers to move down to his"rightful" division, which came tonight in his cruiserweight debut. To say the very least, it did not go well, as Chambers was routed by little-known and lightly-regarded Thabiso Mchunu over 10 rounds to open tonight's NBC Sports Fight Night broadcast.

(14-1, 10 KO) won on scores of 99-91, 99-91, and 97-93, the latter score closer than anyone else had it that I was able to see on Twitter or on the site here. BLH had it 100-90 for Mchunu, finding no pity rounds to give Chambers (36-4, 18 KO).

The 31-year-old Chambers just never got out of the starting blocks in this one, as he looked bewildered by the southpaw counter-puncher from South Africa, as if he had no real game plan and was just there to wing it and see what happened. Several theories were offered during the fight: Chambers' usual speed advantage was gone, Chambers didn't know how to fight a southpaw, Chambers ate bad Subway pulled pork, #FAMJUICE is definitely not a PED, and so on, but really, he just got outboxed and outfought for the entire fight.

While much of the focus will be on what Chambers does going forward, we should talk more about Mchunu, a 24-year-old fighter who looked quite impressive here, tagged Chambers clean and caused his opponent to yell at his own hand a bunch (which was weird, but Eddie was weird in general the entire fight), and looked to be a legitimate guy to watch at cruiserweight. It's a competitive division and this fight was supposed to give us a new contender. That was supposed to be Chambers, but it's Mchunu instead.

Polish heavyweight veteran's first fight of 2013 was a success, as he dominated his faded foe

Tomasz Adamek had a little bit of a rough 2012, even though he went 4-0, with very debatable wins over Eddie Chambers and Steve Cunningham, and relative struggles against both Travis Walker and Nagy Aguilera in clearer victories. In his first fight of 2013, though, he did look a little fresher than we've seen him since he was manhandled by Vitali Klitschko in 2011, beating Dominick Guinn over 10 rounds.

Adamek (49-2, 28 KO) came out a little slow in the first round, which unanimously went to Guinn (34-10-1, 23 KO), but after that, it was pretty much all "Goral," as he pleased his always-vocal, always-present fans, who chanted for him throughout the fight as he battled on to a one-sided decision.

Scores were 98-92, 99-91, and 99-91 for Adamek. BLH had it 98-92.

The fight went more or less as expected, with Guinn hanging around and giving rounds, but not letting his hands go enough. Adamek became sharper as the fight wore on, as he perhaps began to trust his skills more, opening up with combinations off the jab and keeping a steady pace. Guinn's only shot, really, was a knockout, and that just wasn't there for him, though he did land some solid right hands early on in the fight. After three or four rounds, Guinn looked physically and mentally done, which was no real surprise.

Does Adamek have a title chase left in him? How would he fare against the likes of Kubrat Pulev or Alexander Povetkin based on tonight's fight?

Chris Arreola and Seth Mitchell a done deal for September 6th in Indio, California

A heavyweight match-up between #3 WBC, Chris Arreola (35-3, 30 KO’s) and #2 WBC, Seth Mitchell (26-1-1, 19 KO’s) is now official for September 6th at the Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, California, USA. This should be a good, fast scrape that will probably end with a quick knockout. 

The undercard has two fights that are slated to be televised, but they may need a third because Arreola-Mitchell has 1st round knockout written all over it. Mitchell is out of his class in this fight, and will probably be taken out in the 1st round.

“GGG” & “The Jackal”: The 2 most avoided fighters in boxing today

After dominating WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in route to a 12 round unanimous decision last April, it seems like Guillermo Rigondeaux has very few options for his Next fight, even though there are lot`s of good fights possible in and around the super bantamweight division. 

WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin has the same problem after thrashing Matthew Macklin in 3 rounds, a guy who gave WBC & The Ring Champion Sergio Martinez a tough fight for 11 rounds. These 2 fighters are each other`s opposites in many ways; Rigondeaux is a skillful boxer who sticks and moves and uses his speed and defense to set up his offense from the outside, while Golovkin is a guy who stalks his opponents and without warning drops punishing combinations, and has 1 punch knockout power in ether hand. 

But in one way they are very much alike; nobody seems to be eager to fight ether guy, and both has an extensive amateur background. Golovkin has accumulated 8 straight knockouts in defense of his WBA middleweight title witch as far as i know is a record in the middleweight division (Marvin Hagler had 7), and he’s done it in less than 3 years. 

None of the top guys in the middleweight division seems eager to fight Golovkin; not IBF champ Daniel Geale, not WBO champ Peter Quillin and not Ring champion WBC 160 lb. title holder Sergio Martinez. Martinez is out for the rest of the year, due to an injury he suffered in a tough fight last April against Britain’s Martin Murray. 

Martinez’s promoter Lou Dibella went so far as saying that Martinez would not comeback from a year out of the ring to fight an animal like Golovkin. Golovkin’s best fight possible could be against his mandatory Challenger Martin Murray, who as mentioned gave Martinez a tough fight in April (many saw it as a win for Murray). 

But is Murray willing to risk a second loss in a row against such a powerful puncher? #2 WBA contender former champion Felix Sturm is a fighter you can automatically rule out. He is a very protected fighter and would not take a fight like this. The number 3 contender is a Jarrod Fletcher. 

Fletcher is a British, 29 year old fighter who was stopped in 2 rounds by another “no name” fighter in September of 2012. When it comes down to a mandatory, I think neither Murray or Sturm won’t take the fight, and it’ll come down to Fletcher. A rise to the top for Golovkin probably will take some time still because none of the top fighters show much interest in fighting him. 

Martinez will propably try to cash out with 1 or 2 fights next year, and then maybe move down to junior middleweight to pursue a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. A fight against Miguel Cotto is also see a smart fight for Martinez. Cotto is still a very popular fighter and would be like a final run for the big time for the 3 time champion and a nice payday for Martinez. I doubt Martinez – Golovkin fight will ever happen. 

The former 2 time Olympic Gold medalist Guilermo Rigondeaux’s biggest possible fight would be a super fight against Abner Mares. That is not makable because of the Golden Boy – Top Rank feud. But that would be one of the most exiting fight`s in boxing today. 

I rank Mares and Rigo as tied for the #4 pound for pound in the world, and the mix of style. It is just sad it won`t happen. Other options is a rematch with Donaire. Donaire did have him down late in the fight. But just as Manny Pacquiao he is not eager to take a rematch with the man who beat him (I’m not saying Manny lost to Tim Bradley, but the judges said so, and that`s what matters.) Bob Arum does not seem to eager to put Rigondeaux in another big fight. He says he simply can`t sell Rigo`s fights.

 I think Rigondeaux should try to change promoters if Arum can’t find fights for him. Rigondeaux is Top Rank’s best fighter at this point. However, they are showing a lot of interest in Chinese Zou Shiming, who has failed to impress in his first 2 fights of his pro career. If Rigondeaux wants to move on with his career and get bigger fights, he should try to change promoters to Golden Boy once his contract is up with Top Rank. There are lots of good fights to be made except Mares and Donaire rematch. 

Fernando Montiel is a nice name to have on your record and Victor Terrazas is not to shabby ether. And a move up in weight to featherweight would not be too bad either for Rigondeaux. Good fight`s to be made with guys like Ponce De Leon, and Jhonny Gonzalez. But I think all the champions at featherweight would think twice about risking their belts against Rigo. 

The conclusion: These guys are top fighters in their respective divisions, but both of them will have a hard time trying to get a big fight in the near future, simply because they are high risk, low reward fighters. What does the future hold for them? Gennady Golovkin plans to return twice more this year. I doubt either will be against a big name opponent. No word yet on Rigondeaux`s next fight. Time will tell what is next for this two. Related:

Mike Alvarado will face Ruslan Provodnikov at Denver's First Bank Center on October 19, with HBO televising the WBO junior welterweight title fight. It's a homecoming for Alvarado, as he returns to his home state coming off of the biggest win of his career on March 30, when he outboxed Brandon Rios in an exciting rematch over 12 rounds.

Provodnikov, of course, is coming off of a great performance of his own in a narrow, thrilling loss to Timothy Bradley on March 16. While Bradley and even Rios have moved on to pay-per-view main events this fall, Alvarado (34-1, 23 KO) gets a chance to return home the hero, in what should be an exciting fight that his team is calling a "perfect matchup."

By Derek Bonnett: Boxing has long been a family affair with fathers, sons, uncles, and brothers lacing up the gloves to follow in the footsteps of some blood relation or kin in the hope of matching or surpassing the heights attained by their genetic lineage. From the Moyer clan to the Marquez brothers to the Spinks family to the Brothers Klitschko, when it comes to professional fisticuffs blood is thicker than water. The family that sweats, bleeds, and spits together...well, you get my point.

This summer a buzz, albeit a quiet one, began once all three brothers of the Kameda family were scheduled to compete in separate bouts within a forty-three day period. Boxing history was on the line in a couple of different fashions.

The eldest brother, Koki, a three-division champion (108, 112, 118)was set to defend his WBA bantamweight strap against John Mark Apolinario. As expected, Koki Kameda , 26, successfully defended his title for the seventh time and raised his record to 31-1 (17).

Stevens, Adamek and Chambers all big betting favorites in tonight’s TV action

None of the bouts on tonight NBC Sports Network triple-header can be classified as “pick ‘em” fights, but all have compelling story lines nevertheless. The main event features a middleweight who is openly campaigning to land a fight with the much feared WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, while the support bouts include a former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion who is looking for a title in the heavyweight division, and a former heavyweight title challenger testing the waters at cruiserweight.
In the main event, middleweight contender Curtis “Showtime” Stevens (24-3, 17 KOs) is a solid -550 favorite to defeat Saul Roman (37-9, 31 KOs) tonight at the Mohegan Sun. Roman backers can get +350. Stevens has let it be known that he wants to challenge Golovkin and the Golovkin camp is open to it. An impressive performance by Stevens tonight would greatly help his cause.
Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (48-2, 29 KOs) faces Dominick Guinn (34-9-1, 23 KOs) in the co-feature. Adamek is a whopping -2500 pick to win, while the line on late sub Guinn is +1000. In the TV opener, Eddie Chambers (36-3, 18 KOs) moves down to cruiserweight to take on Thadiso Mchunu (13-1, 19 KOs). Chambers is a heavy -550 favorite while Mchunu is +350 to pull the upset.

Boxing-I still have two or three years left, says Pacquiao

 SINGAPORE, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Eight-weight world champion Manny Pacquiao believes he has two or three years of fighting left before he quits the sport and still retains the hope of securing a bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

 Two straight defeats, the second a brutal sixth round knockout by old foe Juan Manuel Marquez in December, prompted pundits and fans to suggest retirement for the 34-year-old Filipino.

 But he will step back in the ring after an extended break on Nov. 24 to take on American Brandon Rios for a first fight in Macau, keen to re-establish himself as the number one pound-for-pound fighter in the sport.

"Great opportunity for me to give a good show for the people, to get back my name into the top of boxing," the Filipino congressman told reporters in Singapore on Friday on the latest leg of the promotional tour for the bout.

"Brandon Rios is a good boxer, tough opponent and I believe we can give a good fight. Especially his style and my style it is very good to fight each other, we can create a lot of action in the ring."

 The 27-year-old Rios, an aggressive former lightweight world champion known as 'Bam Bam', will provide a stern test forPacquiao although he lacks the box office numbers that a fifth bout with Marquez or a first with Mayweather could bring.

Pacquiao, who said three years ago his mother had given her blessing for him to fight once more, remains open to both options and has no plans to call it quits any time soon.

"I'm not really sure (how many fights left) as long as I can still fight I can fight. In my mind right now, maybe I can still fight maybe two to three years from now," said Pacquiao, who has amassed a 54-5-2 record with 38 knockouts.

"I tell you frankly, honestly in myself I can still fight and I feel strong. If there is something wrong in my body or something wrong in my boxing skill I have to think about that and think about retirement.

"But since I lost the last fight, I never feel something in my body, I still feel strong and I can still fight."

PACQUIAO-MAYWEATHER

Pacquiao, whose power punching from both hands and lightning speed helped him win titles from flyweight through to light middleweight, said he had trained every day since the Marquez defeat and that his body was 'addicted to exercise'.

But having achieved so much already and with the lucrative Mayweather clash appearing destined to never happen, talk returns to retirement.

 His Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who also represents Rios, acknowledged politics and not boxing was Pacquiao's main focus.

 "What is the end game with Manny? The end game is to run and win for the highest possible office in the Philippines, boxing is just a way-station for Manny Pacquiao," the veteran promoter told reporters. "I think he has much to offer his country.

"He will know when to call it quits in boxing and it may very well be before a normal fighter would call it quits because he has what I think are more important things to accomplish."

For now though, fighting in Asia and putting on an entertaining show for the high number of Filipino fans expected to take the two-hour flight to Macao is Pacquiao's focus.

China's gambling enclave also means no long haul flying to America for training, but Pacquiao acknowledged the 1130 a.m. local fight time to cater for the U.S. television audience would be slightly problematic and require 0400 wake up calls.

Pacquiao, though, made strong hints about future fights in the region instead of America, with Arum touting the Philippines and Singapore as possible venues.

 A move that Arum hoped might finally lead to Mayweather, one of the true greats of the sport, getting in the ring with Pacquiao.

"Never say never," Arum said of the possible match up.

"I think when Floyd realises the economic benefits of doing a fight in Asia, maybe at the new Singapore stadium ... maybe that will open up a dialogue for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight in Asia." (Editing by Amlan Chakraborty)

Busy EBU week in Belgium

Stéphane Jamoye, Sabrina Giuliani and Alex Miskirtchian are scheduled to defend their EBU titles within a week in Belgium.

Jamoye and Guliani will defend on Sept 28 in Herstal, Belgium on a promotion of Boxing Club GMG Cheratte/Vise headed by Mirco Giuliani while one week later Miskirtchian will defend on a promotion of 12 round Promotion headed by Alain Van Ackere.

WBC #1 Stéphane Jamoye will defend his EBU bantamweight title in a voluntary defence before having to face his mandatory challenger Zhanat Zhakiyanov from Kazakhstan.

 Sabrina Giuliani will defend her EBU female lightweight title on the undercard. Both opponents will be announced soon.

One week later WBC #10 Alex Miskirtchian will defend his EBU featherweight title against Italian Davide Dieli in Andenne, Belgium.

The next big event in Belgium will be on August 23 in Oostende on the Belgian seaside. 

Claude Van den Heede will present a 7 fight quality show headlined by WBC #12 Ermano Fegatelli. Sasha Yengoyan will have a good test againt Bulgarian champion Stiliyan Kostov and Delphine Persoon will keep busy while waiting for her WBC fight. Newly crowned Belgian cruiserweight champion is back in action on the undercard and is hoping to fight for a WBC title in October.

Alvarado-Provodnikov set for October 19
