Redkach defeats Luis, stays unbeaten

After more than a month’s hiatus, the first Showtime boxing telecast of 2014 took place Friday night at the Cook Convention Center in downtown Memphis.
In the main event, hard-hitting lightweight Ivan “The Terrible” Redkach (16-0, 13 KOs) kept his undefeated record intact with a ten round unanimous decision over the very game Tony “Lightning” Luis (17-2, 7 KOs).

Redkach scored a flash knockdown at the end of round one. Luis was rocked in round six and his face was covered in blood after he sustained a cut on the forehead from an unintentional headbutt. Scores were 99-90, 97-92, 97-93. It was a good action fight.

There were three battles on the card between unbeaten fighters.

In the co-feature, “The Brooklyn Rocky” Frank “Notorious” Galarza (12-0-2, 8 KOs) scored a spectacular second round KO over John “Apollo Kidd” Thompson (14-1, 5 KOs) in a jr middleweight bout. Galarza rocked Thompson with a right hand, then dropped him on his face with a huge left hook. Time was :16.

Jr welter Maurice “Mighty Mo” Hooker (12-0-2, 9 KOs) and Abel Ramos (8-0-1, 4 KOs) battled to a majority draw. A huge closing round by Ramos got him a draw on two cards. Scores were 77-75 Hooker, 76-76 twice.

Middleweight Antoine “Action” Douglas (12-0, 7 KOs) scored a one-sided eight round unanimous decision over Marquis “MD Goodnite” Davis (8-1-2, 5 KOs). Scores were 79-73, 80-72, 80-72. No knockdowns, but Douglas knocked a tooth out of Davis’ mouth in round six. Douglas claimed the Fecarbox regional belt.
