Pascal wins Battle of Canada with decision over Bute!

Jean Pascal emerged victorious in the Battle of Canada moments ago at the Bell Centre in Montreal when he out-pointed Lucian Bute over twelve rounds as seen live on HBO Boxing.

Pascal’s heavier blows sealed the win as Bute simply spent far too much time fighting hesitantly in the bout. Both men were cautious in the early going looking to measure each other out. Bute looked to keep the fight at range and Pascal largely leapt in with one punch at a time.

It was a chess match in the early rounds with Pascal looking to be the heavier puncher but Bute was slightly more active with his long jab. Pascal had the best moments through the first half of the fight but most of it was near the end of each round in brief flurries.

Bute had trouble committing with his punches and was largely pawing in the middle rounds. Pascal landed the heavier blows but for the most part they were infrequent. He opened up a bit more in the eighth and dropped Bute with two wild shots but it was ruled a slip as one came on the back of the head while the Romanian was off balance.

The championship rounds were strange as it appeared in spots like Pascal was gassed and he allowed Bute several sequences to work but each time he came springing back to life and flurried with punches in bunches.

After the final bell sounded the judges preferred Pascal’s more effective punching and he was ahead on all three cards by scores of 116-112, 117-110 and 117-111 to seal the victory. Stay tuned for more!
