Herve Hubeaux, now 15-1-0(7) had to dig deep to win a very close decision against Hungarian Tamas Bajzath, 8-6-1(4) last night at the Andenne arena, Belgium. Hubeaux won the vacant WBC Youth title.
He formely holded the WBC Youth Intercontinental title. The visitor started well to work with success to the body of the local star.
Hubeaux was slow to react. From round 2 Hubeaux was more accurate and scored with nice combinations. He did not keep the pressure on his opponent who got back into the fight and was very effective scoring to the body.The Hungarian was seemingly very disappointed at the announcement of the verdict which was scored 96-95 Olena Pobyvailo, 97-94 Hugues Hellebaut and a too wide 98-93 from Michel Maksiuta.
The current WBC Youth Silver superlightweight champion Steve Jamoye, 15-0-0-(2) easily outpointed Gyorgy Miszei Jr, 15-7-0(9), in a non title 8 rounder. The visitor was down at the end of round 5 but survived to go the distance. Steve Jamoye will be back in action on Nov 1st and is expected to defend his Youth title on Dec 14.
Geoffrey Battello, 26-5-0(22), scored as expected his well needed win by knocked out his overmatched opponent Ferenc Zsalek, 12-36-3(1), in the 2nd round. Zsalek was also dropped in the 1st round.
Nabil Lahouari, 9-1-0(3), surprisingly lost his unbeaten status going down on a wide unanimous points decision against Antonio Manuel, 5-12-1(1).
Ryad Merhi, 3-0-0(3), was less inpressive then in his first 2 bouts but still did was expected from him stopping Marko Rupcic, 2-5-0, who failed to come out for round 3. Rupcic started well but once the local prospect took over with combinantions from both hands the pressure was just too much and the visitor decided to surrender.
