James DeGale routinely outpointed Dyah Davis today in the United Kingdom, and is now looking to make a play for a WBC super middleweight title shot.
James DeGale had little trouble today in Bluewater, Kent, England, beating Dyah Davis via unanimous decision on scores of 118-110 across the board. BLH had it 117-111 for DeGale, who improves 17-1 (11 KO).
DeGale, 27, banked the first seven or eight rounds before Davis (22-4-1, 10 KO) was able to turn the tide a bit, as DeGale seemed to tire slightly before letting his defense rule the rest of the bout down the stretch.
DeGale will now take aim at the WBC title, as he's reportedly being set up for an eliminator bout against Marco Antonio Periban, with the winner of that one facing the winner of the December 7 fight between titlist Sakio Bika and Anthony Dirrell, which will be televised on Showtime on the Judah-Malignaggi undercard.
Is DeGale ready for a world title shot? Probably about as ready as he's going to get. He's a flawed fighter but he is very talented, and there could certainly be some hope that he's got another gear when faced with tougher opposition. Does DeGale have a world title in his future, or will he fall short of that level?
