Scott Quigg out to impress in world title defence

Scott Quigg is looking to "make a statement" when he defends his WBA super-bantamweight title against Diego Silva in Manchester on Saturday.

Bury's Quigg is the chief support for Carl Froch's super-middleweight world title defence against George Groves.
In his first world title defence in October, Quigg, 25, fought a majority draw against Cuba's Yoandris Salinas.
"Salinas was a very experienced amateur and unbeaten but I proved I can deal with guys at that level," said Quigg.
"I proved I can out-think and out-smart fighters like that. It gave me confidence, if anything
Quigg was back in the gym three days after his fight against Salinas, which some observers thought the challenger should have won.
"It was a bit of a strange night against Salinas," said Quigg, who is unbeaten in 28 pro fights.
"I knew what sort of opponent he was and what I had to do to beat him and I felt I won by two rounds.
"But I couldn't have a better platform to go out and make a statement now.
"This is a dangerous fight. Diego Silva is a really tough opponent. He's got a big punch, he's unorthodox and very aggressive. I've left no stone unturned in training."
Argentine Silva, 30, has 29 wins and two defeats from 35 pro fights and has not been beaten since 2009.
However, Quigg already has one eye on bigger and better things in 2014, with unification bouts on his radar.
"If you can bring the fights to your own country it makes more sense," he said.
"But at the same time everyone wants to have big fights in Las Vegas and places like that. It's a box you want to tick."
Also on the bill at the Manchester Arena, Olympic champion Luke Campbell has his fourth fight in the paid ranks.
Doncaster's Jamie McDonnell, who was stripped of his IBF bantamweight title earlier this month, fights Frenchman Bernard Inom.
And British super-featherweight champion Stephen Smith faces experienced Argentine Sergio Manuel Medina.
