Autumn 2013: The Season of Boxing Superfights?

With British Heavyweights David Haye (26-2-0) and Tyson Fury (21-0-0) set to meet in September, a month set to be huge for boxing with Mayweather v Alvarez and Britain’s Ricky Burns’ WBO lightweight title defence against Raymundo Beltran.

October sees Hard hitting Miguel Cotto’s comeback under Freddie Roach and the two Pac-Man conquerors Timothy Bradley and Juan Manuel Marquez square off for the WBO Welterweight Title.
Manny Pacquiao himself will be in a make or break fight against Brandon Rios in November.

These being only the confirmed fights boxing fans can look forward to, there are yet many still to be confirmed. Will Danny Garcia face Argentine powerhouse Lucas Matthysse on the undercard of Mayweather v Alvarez? Speculation regarding Brit Carl Froch’s next fight has also turned heads as names such as the feared Gennady Golovkin being thrown around.

However, in recent days it has become apparent that the Nottinghmam Fighter is set to face Unbeaten Super-Middleweight George Groves. Also Britain’s Amir Khan is set to move up to 147lbs to face Devon Alexander in a fight which could potentially see the victor take on Floyd Mayweather in 2014.

Could Autumn of 2013 be the greatest season of Boxing ever? If one thing is for sure it is that a sport which is being described as loosing support will not be short of interest in the coming months.
