Mexican legend Erik Morales plans to have two more fights before hanging up the gloves for good, and the first bout is targeted for October in Cancun.
"El Terrible" will fight on, as he's reportedly set to return to the ring in October in Cancun, the first of what will be the final two fights in the Hall of Fame-bound career of Erik Morales. Morales, who turns 37 on September 1, hasn't fought since last October, and will be finishing his career in Mexico after a suspension by USADA following his last bout, where he was allowed to fight anyway under dubious circumstances.
Morales (52-9, 36 KO) was knocked out in four rounds by Danny Garcia in that bout, having failed pre-fight drug tests for clenbuterol. The fight went on, but Morales looked old and in poor condition. He was overpowered by the bigger, younger, stronger Garcia, seven months after dropping a more competitive decision to the same man.
It's not expected that Morales will take on top contenders in these final bouts, which is perfectly understandable, and really, the right idea. Morales has nothing more to prove to anyone, and he's fighting on just to have a proper farewell. Cancun will likely be a tune-up for a possible December retirement in his hometown of Tijuana, which could be against a more credible foe.
