Former heavyweight title challenger Dereck Chisora (17-4, 11 KOs) scored a sixth round KO over previously unbeaten Malik Scott (35-1-1, 12 KOs) on Saturday night at the Wembley Arena in London. Chisora pressed the action, but both fighters had their moments in round one.
Scott had swelling under his right eye after round one. Lots of clinching. Scott seemed to be figuring Chisora out in round two. Chisora landed some good body shots in round four. Close round in round five.
Chisora had success bulling Scott into the ropes in round six and then Chisora suddenly floored Scott with a right hand. Scott didn’t seem majorly hurt but he watched referee Phil Edwards count to nine and it was ruled he got up too late! Time was 2:56. Chisora claimed the vacant WBO International title.
After the fight Scott said, “I’m a professional.
Dereck hit me with a good shot, it was like one of those shots right by the ear, the equilibrium shot, I gave myself an eight-count and was up at nine. The count is to ten over in America and including England…everyone knows I beat the count!”
A look at the video replay shows Scott was still on the canvas at the count of nine, however Edwards never counted ten and immediately waved off the fight as Scott hurriedly jumped to his feet. He seemed good to go again had the fight continued.
Chisora stated, “I just said I’m gonna keep going, keep going. If I catch him he’s going to go down, and I caught him.” When asked what fight he wants next, Chisora said “I want to fight the Klitschkos again.
I want to go back to Germany. Me and the older brother have some unfinished business.”
Promoter Frank Warren said Chisora will fight next at London’s Copper Box Arena on September 21. “I’m going to be looking again for a big name for him.” Warren added that a rematch with Scott may happen “a few fights down the line.”

In a clash of unbeaten middleweights, 2008 Olympian and WBC #12 rated Billy Joe Saunders (18-0, 10 KOs) scored a one-sided twelve round unanimous decision over WBO #6 Gary O’Sullivan (16-1, 10 KOs). Score was 120-109, 120-109, 119-110.
Unbeaten super middleweight Frank Buglioni (9-0, 6 KOs) outpointed Kirill Psonko (10-26-2, 6 KOs) over eight, but didn’t impress against a journeyman he figured to outclass. Score was 79-74.
Unbeaten welterweight Bradley Saunders (6-0, 3 KOs) handed Michael Kelly (8-6-1, 2 KOs) his sixth straight loss via fifth round TKO. Kelly was down in round one but survived until the referee waved off the one-sided contest at :41 of round five.
Unbeaten middleweight Dmitry Chudinov (9-0-2, 7 KOs) and former Prizefighter winner Patrick Mendy (14-6-1, 1 KO) dueled to an eight round draw. Score was 76-76.
