Moreno retains WBA bantamweight title for 11th time; Cermeno edges Escandon for WBA interim super bantam belt; Ramos upsets Vazquez

WBA bantamweight ‘super champion’ Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno (34-2-1, 12 KOs) made the eleventh defense of his 118lb belt with a twelve round unanimous decision over William Urina (24-3, 20 KOs) on Saturday night at the Megapolis Convention Center in the Hard Rock Hotel in Panama City, Panama. It was a typical Moreno performance as the Panamanian slickster methodically outpointed his challenger. Scores were 116-112, 118-110, 118-110.

Former WBA interim world champion Nehomar Cermeno (22-5-1, 13 KOs) is now a two-division interim champion. Cermeno won a twelve round split decision over previously unbeaten Oscar Escandon (22-1, 15 KOs) to claim the vacant WBA interim super bantamweight title. Scores were 115-113, 117-111 Cermeno, 116-113 Escandon.

WBA female featherweight champion Ogleidis Suarez (20-2-1, 8 KOs) scored a one-sided ten round unanimous decision against Liliana “La Tigresa” Palmera (21-11-3, 15 KOs) in the first defense of her title in a rematch. Scores were 97-93, 99-91, 99-91.

In a huge upset, unheralded Columbian bantamweight Walberto Ramos (19-6-2, 12 KOs) won an eight round split decision over former world champion and hometown favorite Roberto “La Arana” Vasquez (32-6-2, 22 KOs). Scores were 77-75, 79-75 Ramos and 78-75 Vazquez.
