Peter Quillin targets Golovkin and the winner of Geale vs. Barker

WBO middleweight champion Peter Quillin stopped by to talk about his future and the upcoming IBF middleweight title fight between Australia’s Daniel Geale versus Great Britain’s Darren Barker. Here’s what he had to say.

What do you think of the fight between Darren Barker vs. Daniel Geale?
Nobody has heard about it in the United States. I’m a boxing fan and I heard about it but nobody (else) has heard about it. It’s a good way for them to get their name out. I like to see (them fight), especially when I’m trying to get fights with those guys but they never accepted it, but it’s bad to see them come to the States and not make their name against an American.
It’s good for boxing all the way around, I appreciate that and I’m fan of the sport and I’m going to watch it as a fan and I’m just grateful to have so many lucrative fights for me in the future. I don’t (want to) take nothing away from those guys, but I’m looking forward to the winner. I give Daniel a lot of respect because he done things like I done, go to guys’ backyards, have all the odds stacked against you some time, overcome defeat like that. It’s a good thing and I’m a big fan of his. Darren Barker, who’s been calling me out on Twitter, to see a guy go out and make a name for himself is good and like I said, I’m looking forward to the winner.
How do you see the fight going?
I think it’s going to be a competitive fight, I didn’t get to really see Darren Barker, I only saw him against Sergio Martinez, he did very well but everybody does well against Sergio Martinez in the early rounds. I don’t know if he’s going to handle Daniel’s pressure. I’m going to have to go with the guy who’s got the momentum, so I’m going to go with Daniel and I think he’ll be the winner.
Would you take on Danny Jacobs in Brooklyn?
I was never, ever a matchmaker in my career, I just say yes. I’m a big fan of Danny and he’s a good friend of mine, but I’m pretty sure if the money was right I’d be able to step that aside and get what I know that I rightfully deserve, victories. That’s all I train for.
What’s in the immediate future for you?
Of course I want the big guys. Let’s say first, Sergio Martinez, is my number one as he has the green belt. I did say Gennady Golovkin was my number three, but I’m damn near saying he’s moved up to my number two to me. Daniel Geale and all them other guys look like food to me. I’m going to fight them like I’m trying to eat their food.
I’m serious about this. I know what it takes to be where I’m at right now and I’ve worked very hard up until this point right now, so why should it get any easier, it shouldn’t.
I’m going to be ready for any opportunity out there.
